Library Carts
At a previous school we used library carts to move books between classrooms and the library. They were very helpful, but also very...plain. At the beginning of one school year I brainstormed with our FANTASTIC art teacher about some ways we could get student art on the carts. With the kids' input, we selected several books to serve as inspiration for the individual carts. We both felt very strongly that the carts should look like the students' art, not endlessly cleaned up and fine-tuned by adult hands.
The art teacher worked the project into her third grade lessons as part of a unit on community art. She also determined the layout of each themed cart to help guide students as they created. A few weeks later we debuted these beauties as they rolled in the halls throughout the school.
